We considered ourselves to be normal/average people.
We followed the advice of society, our teachers, and our family. Go to school, go to more school, get a degree, and get a job. After being in our corporate careers (Brian as a Technician, and Jenny as a Fire Protection Engineer) for only a couple of years, we found ourselves feeling like we were misled. We had believed that if we went to school and got jobs, that life would be great. When we got the jobs we could not believe that this was all that life had to offer, or that we were going to have to be at those jobs for the rest of our lives. More importantly, we had thought that things were going to work out great because of our schooling and jobs.
The reality was that every month it was a struggle just to pay the bills. We had invested years of our life, and lots of money (college loans) to get to where we were at, and now we were trying to figure out how to get from there to where we really wanted to be. The blessing in it all, was that at that time in our life this opportunity came along, and because of the let-down of traditional jobs, we were keeping our options open.
Now, more than a decade later we are very happy to own our own business, control our own time, and be the one to decide how much we make (what we are worth). It has been a very exciting journey and we are even more excited about the years to come.
